AMI Online Menstrual Hygiene Course

The course that started it all.

When AMI was founded in 2022, we began as an online course curriculum teaching virtual classes to students abroad. Although we continue to expand, we continue to provide this option for those looking for a longer durational program.

A surprise dance and poem choreographed and written by students from Bright Achievers School for AMI as a thank you for the program! Performed on the last day of the online course during the final project session and program ending celebration!

What is the Online Menstrual Hygiene Course?

This is a 12-week-long semester long course taught bi-weekly on zoom by our AMI teachers and educators. In this program, students will learn the following:

  • Introduction to menstrual health and menstruation on a scientific and social level

  • menstrual/reproductive anatomy and terminology

  • hormone cycles related to menstruation

  • how to tack one’s period

  • the menstrual cycle and phases of menstruation

  • primary and secondary dysmenorrhea including topics such as fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis, and more

  • pain and symptom management

  • nutrition and anaemia

  • menstrual stigma and cultural sensitivities regarding menstruation

  • combatting period poverty in work and school environments

  • and more!

This bi-weekly model provides students time to learn content at a slower pace while allowing us to provide at home work including practice period tracking, flashcard sets for terminology, and more. During this period, students will also be expected to complete a final presentation focused on a topic that they found interesting in the course or identifying a problem in their local community and solutions. This project provides students the opportunity to get creative and put into practice the knowledge that they’ve learned from the course. As well, we provide students skills of learning how to research, thoughtful organization for presentations, and public speaking skills, making them more confident and boosting their leadership skills in the process.

All students will be provided two-month supply of biodegradable menstrual kits by AMI/FIHRI along with beginner period trackers for their menstruation. Programming includes many games and activities to create an interactive hands on learning experience. Laptops necessary for programming will be supported by AMI along with any other expenses necessary based on further consultation.
