IHCV/AMI/DHI 2025 Menstrual Hygiene Workshop Program
August 15-24, 2025, African Menstrual Health Initiative had the opportunity to collaborate with International Healthcare Volunteers (IHCV) to join on their 22nd annual medical mission in Cape Coast, Ghana to provide a five day afterschool workshop program at Hayford Aggrey Memorial High School
For one week, our AMI teachers and founder, Stacey Fabo, Dr. Ginika Ejimgini, and Oge Ogbogu, respectively, volunteered with the IHCV and Cape Coast Teaching Hospital pediatrics team to host their second in-person menstrual hygiene and menstrual health workshop with girls ages 16-18. Teaching 45 students and training three teachers, we were able to go over topics of menstrual science and anatomy, and more! Students gave their final presentations on the final day, and we were blown away! From presentations on anaemia and nutrition and how it relates to menstruation to skits and songs made to educate on menstrual hygiene and advocacy, we are so proud of our students and all the work they have done in this program!
From beading sessions, Kahoot games, snacks, and more, we had lots of fun at Aggrey and hope to return soon! Thank you so much to International Healthcare Volunteers for partnering with us and introducing us to this amazing community and working with us, and thank you to the residents at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for supporting this initiative and being amazing team leaders for our students!
Anyone say Assembly?
AMI had the opportunity to speak to the larger Aggrey Memorial Senior School’s student body. With close to 1,000 students attending our assembly, we had a blast speaking to everyone, including bringing our guest speaker, Anjali Patel, a third year OBGYN resident at Rutgers University who spoke to students about Human papillomavirus (HPV), cervical cancer, and the importance of getting vaccinated and attending regular check ups to get screened. Our other teachers from our AMI team also spoke, and we had a great time leading this assembly! Thank you to our team at IHCV and Aggrey Memorial for letting us host this amazing talk!
